General Information about Data Feed



  1. What is Data Feed?

      2. Stock trading activity generates enormous amount of valuable data.
      This data includes traded prices, traded volumes and trends.
      All Indices, including SENSEX, are computed from this trade data.

      In addition, there is a huge amount of information with BSE on the
      listed companies, as a consequence of regulations requiring them
      to file information with BSE regularly like shareholding pattern, financial
      results and major announcements.

      These data resources which are distributed in real time or on delayed basis through dedicated communication lines or Internet is known as Data Feed.

  2. What are Key Stations?

      3. The distributors of BSE disseminate the data through terminals. These terminals (end user) are known as Key Stations.

  1. What is Level 1 Data Feed?

      2. Level 1 Data Feed package provides the following information

      Scrip Code
      Open, High, Low and Last Traded Price
      Best Bid / Offer with Volume
      Traded Volume
      Close and Last Traded Quantity (Only for live feed)

  2. What is Level 2 Data Feed?

      3. In addition to the data provided in Level 1 Data Feed package, the following data is available in Level 2 Data Feed package

      Weighted Average Price
      Upper Circuit Limit and Lower Circuit Limit
      Turnover Value, Number of Trades, Trend
      Best 5 Bid Rates /Quantity and best 5 Ask Rates / Quantity
      Total Buy quantity and Total Sell Quantity

  3. Is it required to subscribe to Level 1 and Level 2 Data Feed separately?

      4. If you subscribe to Level 2 Data Feed, you will get all the data from the Level 1 Data Feed in addition to the data exclusively available to Level 2 Data Feed subscribers.

  4. Can a Level 1 Data Feed subscriber upgrade to Level 2 Data Feed?

      5. Yes. BSE provides the facility of upgradation for its Level 1 subscribers. You only need to pay the additional charges for upgrading to Level 2

  5. Is it possible to buy data only of some selected stocks?

      6. Yes. You can buy selected basket of stocks, but only in baskets. Currently, BSE provides three baskets:

      "A" Group Basket
      BSE 500
      All Stocks Basket

  6. Is it possible to subscribe to the Indices only?

      7. Yes. You can subscribe exclusively to stock Indices. You can also subscribe to the Indices as an add-on product on any basic subscription. Currently, 3 Index products are available

      SENSEX
      SENSEX + 5 Indices
      All Indices

  7. What is Corporate Data?

      8. All the listed companies are required by regulations to file with BSE corporate information before releasing it to the public. As such, BSE is the very first receiver of all such corporate information.

      Corporate Data has three components:

        Financial Results: Financials results for every quarter (consolidated results are also made available).

        Corporate Announcements: Various announcements made by the company, many of which are price sensitive in nature, including information about a project, dates of Board meetings, corporate actions and issues, dividend payments, amendments to Articles, general meetings etc.

        Shareholding Pattern: Shareholding pattern at the end of each quarter.

        The above information is disseminated in Data Feed in XML format.

  1. What is Real Time Data Feed?

      2. The data provided on real-time basis.

  2. What is 1-minute snapshot?

      3. A subscriber for 1-minute snapshot gets data of market activity at an interval of every one minute. This data contains the information about the changes that have taken place within the last one minute. In other words, the 1-minute is a picture of the stock market taken every minute. This Data Feed is provided through the Internet.

  3. What is 5-minutes delayed quote?

      4. The market data provided is similar to the 1-minute snapshot. However, the same is made available after a delay of 5 minutes.

  4. What is 10-minutes delayed quote?

      5. The market data provided is similar to the 1-minute snapshot. However, the same is made available after a delay of 10 minutes.

  5. Can I, as an institution, subscribe to a Book Building feed?

      6. Yes. You can subscribe to a Book Building feed. The feed is updated after every 5 minutes.

  6. What is the End-of-Day-Quotations file?

      7. The End-of-Day-Quotations file provides the data at the end of each trading day, which includes the summary of the transactions of the trades conducted during the day. The data is provided in a single file.

      A typical End-of-Day-Quotation file contains Open-High-Low-Close-Volume (OHLCV) data.
      This is provided as a HTTP downloads through the Internet.

      Special discounted prices are available for End-of-Day-Quotations data.

 Delivery

  1. How is the data delivered at the customer location?

      2. BSE has two modes of delivering data at the customer location:

      MLDN Set-up: MLDN Set-up is a dedicated leased line connection between BSE and the customer for receiving the live data.

      BSE arranges for the leased line connection between BSE and the customer through MTNL /Tata Teleservices/Reliance Communications. An additional ISDN line can be provided for emergency backup.

      The customer is required to pay the connection charges levied by the service provider.
      BSE charges only for port usage The Data Feed is provided at 128 kbps. The data is provided in binary format.

      HTTP Server: This mode is used for sending data over the Internet for providing 1-minute snapshot, 5 minute delayed snapshot and End-of-Day Quotations. Live feed is not available through HTTP server.

      BSE provides the customer with a login ID and password for accessing the server.
      The information is provided in the .csv format.

  1. Distributors and Redistributors

    1. Who is a Data Distributor?

        2. A person or organization that has been authorized to resell the data provided by BSE, to end subscribers or redistributors is designated as a Data Distributor.

    2. Who is a Data Redistributor?

        3. A person or organization authorized to provide data to end subscribers in the form of a product or as a service is designated as a Data Redistributor. A Data Redistributor can enter into a direct contract with BSE but will be supplied data through a Data Distributor.

        A Data Redistributor can provide data only to an end subscriber. A Data Redistributor is not allowed to distribute data to any other redistributor.

    3. Are there any special discounts available for Data Redistributors?

        4. A Data Redistributor who has entered into an agreement with BSE for Real Time data but takes a feed from a Data Distributor is required to pay 80% of the base charge that is applicable to the Data Distributors.

  2. Websites / Portals

    1. What kind of Data Feed is available from BSE for Websites/Web Portals?

        2. All BSE data products can be subscribed by Websites/Web Portals. In Stocks, only Level-1 data will be provided. Real Time, 1 min snap shot & 5 min delayed data will be provided to Paid Subscriber websites and 10 min delayed data will be provided to Websites/Web Portals which display data free.

    2. What is difference between Paid Subscriber websites and Free Display website?

        3. - Paid subscriber website: The website which charge to their end user for access to BSE data. The Paid Subscriber websites have to share the per subscriber charges to BSE in addition of annual fixed charges. - Free Display website: The website which display BSE data on free basis (publicly) to end user.

    3. Any charges to be paid for display BSE data on free website?

        4. No BSE data is provided free of charges. In case of a Data Feed distributor/ re-distributor, 15 minutes delayed data can be displayed only on their website.

  3. TV Channels

    1. What kind of data is available for TV Channels?

        2. TV channels are provided Level 1 feed only.
        Data can be accessed either directly from BSE or through an authorized data distributor.
        In case a TV channel intends to display the BSE stock prices on its website, it can do so after a 15 minute delay.
        TV channels can also exclusively subscribe to Index products.

    2. Is there any special offer for a group of TV channels?

        3. In case one channel from a group of TV channels subscribes to the Data Feed, other channels within the group are eligible for discounted rates.
        The first channel subscribing for the Data Feed is charged at the full basic rate and each additional channel is charged 25% of the base price.

  4. Print Media

    1. What kind of data is available for the print media?

        2. Stocks, Indices, Corporate data as well as End-of-Day-Quotations are made available by BSE to the print media for publication in their newspapers/magazines.

  5. Mobile Operators

    1. How can Mobile Operators access data From BSE?

        2. Mobile Operators can access live data from BSE for dissemination to their subscribers, under a revenue sharing arrangement.

    2. What kind of services can Mobile Operators provide to their subscribers?

        3. Mobile Operators can provide SMS-based services as well as Value Added Services to their subscribers using the Data Feed provided by BSE:

        SMS-Based Services: Live quotes for stocks as well as indices by SMS
        Value Added Services: Streaming quotes or regular updates on the wireless.

  6. Creators of Indices and Other Products based on BSE-listed scrips

    1. Is BSE data available for Index creators?

        2. Index creators can avail the Data Feed from BSE for the purpose of computation and publication of Indices.

    2. Is there any scheme for companies for developing and marketing products based on stocks and indices?

        3. Financial institutions like mutual funds and portfolio managers can subscribe to the Data Feed for creation of products like index funds and exchange-traded funds. For this purpose, Level 2 Data Feed is ideal.

  7. Professionals

    1. Can a Professional involved in stock trading subscribe to the Data Feed?

        2. Professionals can subscribe to the Data Feed from any of the authorized Data Distributors or Data Redistributors. Both Level 1 and Level 2 data are available to such subscribers.

  8. Listed Companies

    1. Can a company listed on BSE, display its own stock price live on its website?

        2. A company can avail Data Feed of its scrip. The annual subscription fee is Rs.50, 000 (upto 10 scrips and all indices) on which 20% discount is offered if the feed is taken through a Distributor.

  9. Others
    1. Is it possible to get some specific data from BSE archives/historical data without being a regular subscriber of the Data Feed?

        2. You can get historical data as per your requirement. The fee will be dependent on the type and period of data.

    2. Is it necessary to acquire the Data Feed from BSE directly?

        3. It is not necessary to directly acquire the Data Feed from BSE. You can get the feed from any of our authorized Data Distributor or Data Redistributors. In case you are a Redistributor accessing the Real Time feed through a Data Distributor, 20% discount on the base prices will be applicable.

 Billing Information

  1. What are the payment terms for subscribing to the Data Feed?

      2. Fixed minimum charges are payable in advance in March and September as indicated in the schedule of prices.

      Data Distributors and Data Redistributors are required to file a monthly declaration of the number of key-stations utilized during each month. There will be monthly billing for any additional key-stations utilized during the month.

  2. Is there any administration or processing charges for subscribing to the Data Feed?

      3. No. As per the new Data Feed pricing policy, the administration charges have been waived with effect from 1 April 2006. Customers only need to pay the basic Data Feed subscription fee.
